FIABCI-USA welcomed 150 delegates from eleven countries to New York for the UN Luncheon and International Symposium. The events from April 3-5 included tours of New York’s finest residential developments and ten outstanding panels featuring compelling information on the amazing rate of change both inside and outside the real estate profession.
In his UN Luncheon Keynote, Thomas G. McCarthy, Cushman & Wakefield Vice-Chairman noted, “When many of us, whether developers or brokers became strong and successful, we likely assumed that continuing to do more of what we had always done would be the key to future success. If the world and the markets around us are changing at such an amazing rate, why should we assume that the world of real estate is standing still – it is not.” He advised keeping up with the pace of change but to never forget the need for personal relationships. “I believe the understanding of personal interaction and personal relationships is the difference between the average players and the superstars in any business.”
Attendees were captivated by expert panels on global wealth trends, international architecture & design trends; capital flows & regional investment targets; updates on gateway cities including Boston, Chicago, Miami and Toronto; the sharing economy; legal and tax advice for foreign owners of US real estate; updates on Essex Crossing & Navy Yard – large New York developments; health and wellness in real estate; and the possible changes to come from China’s new monetary control policies.
In addition the change in FIABCI-USA leadership was marked at the Installation Dinner on April 4 where Susan Merdinger Greenfield of Brown Harris Stevens, New York was installed as FIABCI-USA President 2017-2018 by outgoing President Maire Rosol of Summit Sothebys’s International Realty, Park City, Utah. “I am extremely pleased to be taking the reins of FIABCI-USA at this crucial time,” noted Ms. Greenfield. “FIABCI’s prestigious history and extensive global network have prepared us to transform this organization and provide our members and the market with extraordinary service and insights into international business and success.”
